2011-2012 Swim Program

General Notes

- all swimmers MUST have a valid STAC (Saskatchewan Triathlon Assoc'n Corp) and STCI (Saskatoon Triathlon Club Inc) membership.

- You can view your current STAC membership status here.  To renew/purchase a STAC membership go here

- STCI memberships expire September 30 of each calendar year.

- Purchase/renew STCI membership and register for programs here.

- Each session has a maximum limit of registrants - first come, first registered.

- STCI reserves the right to cancel a program if there are not enough entrants.

- No drop ins; no attending classes for which you are not registered...even if you couldn't make it to your registered class that week.

- The descriptions are provided to help you choose the appropriate session.  While we do not want to discourage anyone, please be aware that if you choose a session outside of your ability (too hard / too easy) you may be frustrated.  Our coaches prepare workouts based on the expected abilities and, unfortunately, it is impossible to tailor workouts for each individual.  This is not to say you can't register, just know that you will be doing the workout assigned by the coach.

- You can register for as many or as few sessions as you want.

- All classes will run Oct/11 -  end of Jun/12.  The first week of classes begins Sunday, Oct. 16.

And now to our programming...

A Guide to the Swim Levels
Learn to swim - you can swim at least 12.5 m (1/2 length) but need instruction on how to swim.
Novice - you can swim at least 400 m continuously though need to take several breaks in a workout.  You swim 100 m in >2:30 minutes.
Intermediate - you can swim at least 1000 m continuously.  Your 1500 m race pace is about 1:45 - 2:30  minutes / 100 m.
Advanced - you lead the pack in triathlons :)  You often swim at least 3000 m per workout and your 1500 m race pace is  <1:45 min / 100 m.

Novice -Intermediate - Advanced:

This session is for club camaraderie but also provides a good workout.  Be aware this is a 50 m pool with no shallow end; beginner swimmers are welcome but there will not be opportunity for learn to swim instruction.  Swimmers need to be able to comfortably swim 50 m continuously. This is a great opportunity to network with many of the triathletes in the club in a world-class facility.

  • Coaches: Chris Smela & Joel Howlett
  • Cost: $200

Total distance will be dictated by your abilities and progression. This will also be appropriate for those who can swim but don't typically swim > 800-1000 m per workout or >45 minutes.
